A bit of this - A bit of that

'A Bit Of This and A Bit Of That' is a very good title for this weeks work.

A YOP post.

Here we have a bit of freeform crochet that started off as one scrumble, and quickly progressed into three more scrumbles trying to match the first. They are not exact replicas, but near enough for me and this project.

And then I got to stitch some hexies together, which turned out just fine, with
6 of these:

and 6 of those:

Things will start to get more intense for me on the hexies soon as the numbers for each 'round' increase and it will look like I'm 'stuck' in one place as I work on, and build up the required numbers of a particular colourway.

Both of the above projects were done early in the week and nothing has
been done since Thursday, because on Thursday morning I woke up as normal,
but soon found that I was in severe pain if I moved.
My shoulder injury (from 8 years ago) had reappeared while I slept, probably because I did a fair bit of gardening on Wednesday.
I did not want to believe that my shoulder tendons had snapped again. It was the same extreme pain as the first time. So painful that it made me sick, but of course then I had to move. I just couldn't win.
Luckily for me the pain subsided a little bit through the day, and now, 4 days later, it's eased up enough for me to realize that the tendons are probably not fully snapped, but a bit damaged.
Since my accident I have been getting recurring pain if the shoulders get any sort of a workout,
but Thursdays pain was the worst since the original damage.
Hopefully I will continue to improve, and I'll have to keep reminding myself that I do not have the same strength anymore and take into account my physical limitations.

Ah well, such is life.

And I'll end here with a laugh-out-loud (I must laugh or I'd cry).

  1. Awwww - I'm SO sorry you're hurting! I really hope that it's damage and not the awful alternative. Take care of you and do pay attention to that Minion goal.

    1. Thanks MA. I must 'listen' to what my body is telling me, lol.

  2. Oh no, I'm sorry you have had such pain. Glad to hear it has been improving and I hope that continues.
All your hexies are delightful, I look forward to seeing you progress with them.

Boo on the pain! I had to take some IB b/c I actually had pain in my hands and wrists - boo. How do you stitch the hexis together? Do you have to by hand?

    1. Thanks Stefanie, hope your hand/wrist pain doesn't last too long either. My hexies are all sewn together by hand yes. English Paper Pieced is the traditional technique I use. I love hand stitching, so this project is very enjoyable for me.

  4. Oh Cyra, I am so sorry! Pain is a terrible thing to deal with especially ongoing. Could a physical therapist help with some strengthening exercises once it is healed? Is there a brace you could wear that would prevent you from re-injuring it? It sounds awful and I am praying you will recover soon and it will NEVER happen again! Meanwhile I do like your 'scrumbles' and the hexies are adorable! You've got me wanting to make some! Hugs but very soft ones.

    1. Thank you for your soft hugs, lol. I had physical therapy for more than two years after the first and second lot of surgeries. So I'll carry on (gently) with that again once the inflammation has gone down.

  5. Ooooh... Your shoulder pain sounds truly awful. I hope you continue to heal and can remember to not do the things that cause you to hurt so. I know it's very discouraging to be set back by pain. {{Hugs to you}} Your hexis look perfect. I'm so looking forward to seeing this come together more. And seeing your scrumbles appear in your freeform design, I presume. ;^)

    1. Thanks Becki, I keep forgetting I have limitations, I need to remember that I cannot do the same things that I used to do. I used to love swimming (and was a strong swimmer) but nowadays I can only swim in circles, lol, because one arm is to weak to keep up with the other hahahaha. The scrumbles have now slowly been added to and the design is taking shape. Phew! good job I can still crochet.

  6. Sorry for your pain, but love your little meme at the end. I can relate! Your hexi's are so perfect. It is going to look so awesome once they are all sewn together.

    1. Thank you Mary-Anne. I love the hexie project too and am getting a bit impatient because I want it finished, lol, but I still have a good 4 or 5 years work on it yet as the design is so complex and not for the 'faint-hearted' lol.

  7. I've been out of town at a trade show and haven't checked my blogs in days, so this is a belated get well wish. I hope this comment finds your pain subsided so you can rest and get on with things.

  8. Ouch! Shoulder trouble is the worst... there's no good fixes. Gavin has to do daily stretching or he's a mess. And the Voltaren Emugel twice a day also helps! Hope you find some relief!

I just love that blue-green fabric! Makes me think of satellite photos!
