Oh My Goodness, Did You Miss Me

I can't believe so many weeks have passed and I didn't get to blog about anything.
I am truly sorry to my regular readers who like to see what I am up to.
It has been a long month (nearly two months to be precise).

I'll not bore you with details of the non-stitching stuff (because, frankly, it WAS mostly really boring stuff).

A big FO for me was this Freeform Weaving project.
Inspiration from my garden.
Size is about 22" x 15".
Includes freeform crochet scrumbles.

I also finished the baby blanket and have sent that off.

This was the blanket that someone else started but passed away before finishing it.
The 'trouble' was that all the circles were different sizes, and it's nearly impossible to put circles together with a straight edge.
Anyway, I think I managed to make a reasonable blanket for the grandchild of the deceased lady, even if it does have uneven edges and quite a few 'hills & valleys'.
It has plenty of character, definitely not perfect, and holds many of life's little hiccups within it's essence.
It will be treasured for all the right reasons though.

I have actually finally got my Ocean Freeform Challenge piece bordered, backed, quilted and hanging properly.
I wanted to finish it ready to hang in an exhibition.
I can now add that to my FO list.

I attended a craft workshop at one of my local groups.
We made these mixed media canvas pieces.

This blue one is my piece.

Yesterday I finished a circle weaving project using a home-made recycled plastic bowl for a loom.

So, that's me..... finally caught up with blogging about my makes and creations.
Phew!!!

This has been another YOP post for your enjoyment.

  1. Your woven/freeform projects are beautiful works of art. The canvas mixed media is interesting. I have never seen anything like it. I really like it. Finishing the baby blanket was a wonderfully kind thing you did. I like the hills and valleys. It will never belaid out flat so no one is ever going tonotice.

    1. Thanks Marsha. I like making arty projects most of all. They make my heart 'sing'.
I hadn't thought about the baby blanket not being laid out flat at all, yes, you are probably correct.

  2. I love your freeforms, Cyra. I love the details and colors and textures! I want to look at them and study them and then touch them. But I can't. :^( I can only enjoy them from afar, but I'm so glad you shared them. And yes! You were missed! :)

    1. Thanks Becki.... it's good to be back in blogland after the all the travelling back and forth (3hr trip each way) about 20 times each month, to hunt down the perfect property investment project for our retirement years. Phew, it was exhausting, but we got one in the end.

  3. Wow! I love the freeform pieces. And the blanket is gorgeous, straight edges are overrated anyway.

  4. Your projects look like they could be hanging in an art gallery

    1. Thank you Mary-Anne. Sometimes my pieces are for sale, yes. The underwater scene didn't sell at the recent exhibition and so both of these hangings are now hanging in my home.

  7. It's all so visually interesting! You've definitely caught the essence of a garden. To liken it to painting, the woven fabric forms the ground and under painting, and the selected details are added in free form crochet. The suggestions of flowers, leaves and petals allows the viewers to fill in the details from their own imaginations. It's really nice!

    1. Thanks Lynn.I am a lover of contemporary and abstract art, lol, does it show in my textile pieces too, hahaha.
Semi-realism can also be interpreted in textiles pieces like mine. I'm glad that you said the suggestion of flowers, leaves etc. allows the viewer to fill in the details from their own imagination. That is exactly what my art is about - letting people see what they want to see in a piece. Thank you for reinforcing that I'm on the right track.
