Fiberart Guild Presentation

The International Freeform Fiberart Guild has one of my fiberarts published in the 2017 book.
The theme this year was Pattern In Nature, and my piece is all about the pattern of life of a Leaf

The Life Cycle of a Leaf

This is the book cover for 2017, and clicking on it will take you the book sale where you can also see all the other fiberarts too.

There is also an online gallery HERE if you prefer to view the fiberart on their website with larger pics.

I went to a wet-felting class last weekend, and here are the two flowers I made there.

The orange one is huge, and for The Great Opunake Yarn Bomb project later this year.
The black/purple flower is waiting for beads to be added and for another project.

Well, I think that's it for this week.
Be sure to check out the fiberart online show because you will not be disappointed with the eye-candy there. Some wonderfully talented people all over the world.

Freeform Crochet Exhibition

Every year the International FreeForm Fiberart Guild produces a book and an online gallery for its annual exhibition.
I have, once again, entered a piece of freeform in the exhibition.

The theme for the show is
Flora and Fauna - native to your region or country.

I chose the New Zealand flax for my inspiration and created this ornamental vessel.

You can read more about my piece on the gallery website HERE

and

The book can be purchased HERE
(all profits go to a charity voted by the member)

International FreeForm Fiberart Guild Challenge 2013

 The International FreeForm Fiberart Guild
.
 2013 Challenge Exhibition has
.
 GONE LIVE

I have created the exhibition book for this year's challenge.
Fun or what!!!

This year our challenge was to create a FreeForm Fiberart work on the theme of
MOTHER EARTH.

46 participants from the Yahoo group IFFFG took part and their fiberart work is included in the book and the online gallery.

Once again, I have thoroughly enjoyed working with this very talented group of fiber artists.

Here is the link to the book MOTHER EARTH.

ALL profits from the sale of the book go the charity (or charities) voted by the members of the Guild. This years charity has not been decided yet. I'll let you know as soon as we have made a decision.

Here are some photos of my fiberart piece for the challenge.

And my description for this piece in the exhibition is as follows:
__________________________

Beltane - a Gaelic May Day Festival, celebrates Mother Earth in full bloom.
It is a time when Mother Earth is fertile and abundant, half way between the Spring Equinox and the Summer Solstice.

My free form piece applauds the flowers that Mother Earth brings forth. The fiery reds and oranges that I have used are symbolic of the fires that were lit in the rituals of the Celtic festival. The fires were deemed to have protective powers and were used to protect the cattle and crops, and also to encourage new growth from Mother Earth.

Techniques used: Free form crochet, hyperbolic crochet, stitching, plaiting, needle-felting, and fused felting.

Announcement of My Special Project

...Announcement of my Special Project...

Many of my visitors here will already know that I have a passion for crochet.
Some of you may also know that I am a member of the International Free Form Crochet Guild.

A link to the Guild is in the right hand column over there > > > > >

Instead of having individual swaps etc (which gets difficult for such a large group to track and coordinate) each year we have one major group challenge which can take many months of planning and creating.

A theme is suggested and voted on. Then members have between 6 - 10 months to design and create their piece interpreting the theme however they are inspired.
Any media may be used but the piece must contain some crochet or knit.

The theme for this year was:  Music & Art

This meant many things to the members. For some it was an individual piece of music, or a musician that inspired them to create their entry for the challenge. For others it was a painting or an artist that inspired them.

The photo entries are collected and arranged to create a book and an online show.

For the second year running I have been the volunteer who creates the book.
And, because of the fabulous number of members who enter this challenge, this is not a job that can be done overnight. It takes many, many weeks of coordinating, collaboration and Photoshop work to achieve this.

Because we are a "non-profit-making" group, all the profits from the sale of the book goes to the charity (or charities) that the group members have chosen to help for the year of the challenge.

This year the profits will be divided equally between:

&

The release of the book (publish date) was 1st July, and no member was to post photos of their entry until after this date, so that everyone could see all the entries at the same time.
The SECRET was so difficult to keep at times, as us crafty lot are a sharing lot too, and it goes against our nature not to "show-&-tell".
But I thank everyone for keeping the SECRET going so well.

Here is the book.

You can click it to go and preview ALL the pages onsite.
Cover photography and design by Cyra Lewis.
All entry photographs are the copyright of the individual artists.

If you would like to see the book I created for the challenge last year here is a direct link to that one.

The theme for 2011 was: Mythologies, Stories & Fairy Tales

And now the process begins again for the 2013 Challenge.
What fun!
