Christmas Hearts

A Christmas Project WIP

In preparation for a Christmas in July group project.
Everyone gets to make four of these Heart Christmas Tree decorations, and decorate them as they wish.
I know there are only three here, but that is because my 1st one was used as the demonstration piece to show the group, and I no longer have it. Other members had difficulty putting the hearts together, so I made up most of the 50+ hearts for them to embellish.
These three will have a Blanket stitch edging and beads added to decorate the crocheted tree.

A plain and simple crocheted baby blanket WIP. Not finished yet, but just the border to do now.
Some brainless crochet to do while sitting in the garden enjoying a glass of wine and the last of the sunny days before winter is upon us.

My mothers bobbins sorted out nicely.

Happy Stitching

  1. Pretty Christmas hearts! And the baby blanket looks like a fine piece of work. Is that all single crochet? Beautiful beautiful bobbins.

    1. Thanks Becki, yes the baby blanket is all sc (or UK dc) hence it being an easy mindless job without any counting, lol.

  2. Your Christmas hearts are lovely. I keep forgetting your seasons are the opposite of mine. We are gearing up for summer and you for winter. The baby blanket is pretty and I admire anyone who can do an entire bkanket, no katter size, in single crochet (UK double). It would make me batty. Now I will show my ignorance.........what are those bobbins used for? I think of sewing machines when I hear "bobbins", but those don't match up with that lol.

    1. Lol, Marsha, my idea of a single stitched blanket is therapy for me, haha, I can daydream to my hearts content without getting a stitch wrong, love it.
These wooden bobbins are for lace-making. I used 5 pairs of them for a piece of work a month or two ago, and thought now it's about time I sorted these others out (they were in three tangled messy piles). Much better now that I can see exactly what I have and matched up the similar ones together. I'll be starting a new bobbin lace 'thing' soon and will share pics.

    2. Thanks for answering. I will be looking for the lace prohe2ct so I can see how they work. I always love to learn new techniques.

  3. I wish we were going into Winter....it's just starting to heat up here and I am so grateful for AC! I too am planning Christmas and should have done it long ago....like January! I love your ornaments and that little tree is precious! You are so talented to make lace with all those bobbins? Amazing! Enjoy your Fall and so glad you are still with us! I had nothing to show this week. I too love to have a crochet blanket on the go for mindless evenings of t.v. watching. Have a great week!

The Christmas decorations are fun. I like the blanket; it has subtle shades of color like looking at a bubble. What neat bobbins. They make hairpin lace, yeah? Do you know Ellie of Crafthouse Magic? She made a whole bunch of motifs via that for her wedding dress. She showed them off in her last podcast, #16.

    1. These colours in the bay blanket remind me of Neapolitan Ice-cream, lol, strawberry/chocolate/vanilla.
These bobbins are for bobbin lace making, which is a sort of weaving and knotting action. Hair-pin lace is made on two parallel bars (called a hair-pin, lol), and is made by crochet stitches and wrapping the thread around the hair-pin. Yes I love Ellie's podcasts and am waiting patiently for her to upload her wedding photos podcast. Her corsage flowers and buttonhole flowers were made with the bobbin lace technique.

  6. Oddly enough, my thoughts have been on Christmas creating this week too. Trying to come up with ideas for something to make for inclusion in the magazine. Soon I'll have to start stitching it!
