Winter has dragged on here (New Zealand), and I'm longing for spring to arrive. I need more sun in the days please. Today was a teaser of what is to come. I managed to actually get three loads of washing on the line and dried. First time I've been able to do that for a long time.

Anyway, enough of my dribble - here's what I have been up to this past week.

I attended an online workshop by JThouse to learn how to make her motif called 'Dione'.

I played YARN CHICKEN with it .... and lost. I ran out of thread just before the very last three picot edgings to the very last 'leaf'. How very annoyed I was (hah! I won't repeat here what I actually said).

But at least I now know how to make the motif.

Craft Room Organising

Since moving into our new home back in March, this room was 'earmarked' for my craft studio, and also as a spare tv lounge.

This part of the room is my sewing area. All my craft books will be on the bottom shelves, and then all my sewing equipment will be on the top shelves close at hand for my sewing/project table.

The three red stacked boxes on the floor on the left have more of my books yet to be unpacked, I hope they will all fit on the shelves ok.

I'm looking forward to having this place sorted soon so that I can plug in my sewing machine that I have not been able to use for well over a year now.

All this in the photo has been in storage all that time as well. Unpacking it is like Christmas and lots of birthdays all arrived at once and I am being reunited with long lost friends here too, lol.

I hope to have the table clear by next week and carry on sorting the other parts of this room, some of which will be the art & designing area. Lots more unpacking yet.

And another one bites the dust - PINK block done

YAY..... I've finished this block now.

It's PINK.

I like this one, it has some interesting shapes and seam treatments.

So now I have to await the big move in November when I shall be reunited with my stash to make the next naked block and start embroidering on it.

I shall have to invent a new crafty project to occupy my hands in between packing. ALL my 'stuff' is now out of reach, and I dare not go shopping for more because I'm fed up with packing it all away and out of sight.

And while I'm on the subject of packing --- I was in a dilemma about what to do with this:

It's a lovely piece of furniture, and I love playing on it (a perfect sound). I have been trying to get Tony to agree to keeping it, but it is rather big, bulky, and heavy, and he says we are rapidly running out of storage space. So I have been thinking about giving it away to someone who will love it as much as I do. Maybe the local primary schools could suggest a child or family who could make very good use of it.

Anyway, the problem of what to do with it solved itself yesterday.

I turned it on and started to play a sad tune on what I thought would be my very last time on the lovely organ. After about 3 minutes there was a splutter, a loud fizz, and then an even louder bang, followed by an enormous amount of smoke coming up through the keys.

Yes..... I killed the keyboard.

 How sad.

Orange is the colour for the block this month and

CQJP update

Yes, I'm a 'bit' behind on the Crazy Quilt Journal Project, but here is my latest work on this piece.

Green, is the colour for this block, although my camera has not captured the right bright greens properly.

All the crochet pieces were entirely stitched freestyle with no patterns. The seam treatments will have more embellishing eventually.

I love the paisley design. I might have to 'chart' that one and share on Ravelry.

So that is my April block started. The neutral naked block is hand pieced.

Oh it's good to be back stitching. I'll give you an update on how our home moving is going on later in the week perhaps.

Yellow February Crazy Quilt Block is Finished.

I like how these blocks are turning out. Something a bit different from the normal Crazy Quilt blocks.

I am using only thread and stitches to create my crazy blocks, with an occasional little bit of crochet for embellishing to add a bit more dimension.

New Year - New Beginnings - New CQJP

  Welcome to the year of change.  

This will be the year that hubby and I finally move into 'real' retirement. I may already be unofficially retired, but it's about time that Tony gets to enjoy more of life without having to work on the farm etc. He's worked hard all his life to provide everything that our family needs, and I know that, for myself and our four kidsies, we really appreciate all he has done for us.

His unselfish sacrifices have been made for the love and well-being of the family group, and now it's time for the family group to make some sacrifices for him. It may include spending a little bit of their inheritance (haha), but hey, he earned it in the first place, so I think he's entitled to enjoy a bit of it to help him retire and do what he wants, for a change.

I think he might have trouble relaxing though because he's not the sort of person who can sit around and do nothing. 

Always 'tinkering' with something.

  CQJP 2015  

My goal for the Crazy Quilt Journal Project for 2015 is to stitch one block a month as per the guideline/requirements.

The fabrics that I shall be using this year for my Crazy Quilt blocks will all be neutrals and whites, with some of the neutrals being my hand-dyed fabrics.

And, because I am expecting to be 'on-the-road' (or at least in the caravan) for most of the year, I am putting some limitations on what I can do, such as:

Embroidery threads will be the predominant form of embellishing.

Each block will have a different colour scheme (I'm hoping this will add interest in the finished quilt).

I will not be following the colour wheel, but will jump to whatever colour appeals at the time.

Beads, sequins & charms will not be used, as I wont be able to travel very well with them.

(I may add beads etc. in one go, at the very end, after ALL the 12 blocks have been made).

Crochet lace or embellishing will be made specifically for each block.

There will be no main overall theme for the blocks.

I will be experimenting more with patterns and the build up of combination seam treatments.

The blocks will be entirely hand-stitched, which includes the piecing of the naked blocks.

And the first bit of seam embellishing has begun.

This block is (obviously) going to be a RED colour scheme.

The dark fabrics here are not as dark in real life as they show in the photo.

A Crazy Quilt Block completed

Dragonflies, Butterflies, Flowers and more make up this crazy quilt block.

The block is from a Kathy Shaw class, with a few extra embellishments of my own imagination.

All in preparation for my 2015 CQJP which is still in the planning stage.
